We the citizens of Canada, members of Montenegrin orthodox church in Canada are presenting our concerns to you and requesting the assistance from the Government of Canada and international community, to engage you on the basis of Human Rights and freedom of Religion.
We are requesting that you give the assistance to the Government of Montenegro to resolve the illegal possession of the lands and churches that are historically of the Montenegrin people, the Serbian orthodox church holds the possession illegally as of 1921. In spite of indisputable right held by the Montenegrin orthodox church, and the international conventions on human right to freedom and freedom of religion . UN international covenant on human rights to freedom and freedom of religion -1976 ,in article 18.
On the basis of Article 1 of this Covenant, every state is abiding to provide and guarantee these rights. This right is guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Montenegro. The property of Montenegrin orthodox church, and the right to worship, who build those places of God? Who may stop believers of Montenegrin Church to get into their churches and pray to God? The Government of Montenegro must resolve these questions!
This does not mean the State shall interfere with the internal matter of the Church, its internal organization or canonical organization, but it means that even the Church in Montenegro must conform to the laws and state authorities that within their competences control the implementation of regulations. Present situation in Montenegro is unacceptable since it uses an excuse that the State and Church are divided. The State of Montenegro is the real owner of all orthodox churches in Montenegro.
